Yes- mostly because of not being able to show sufficient funds or repeat entry (visa runs). They require proof of 20k on entry and seem to be limiting renewals to 1. For long term visas they are increasingly enforcing the good character and conduct requirements. Neither are new laws- they are just enforcing old ones. From next year, they will be increasing interested in tax registration.

Does that mean I should have some sort of a printed bank account statement if I'm entering on tourist visa or visa free? I haven't beem there for while. And previously when I entered nobody ever asked me for anything.

If you are asked, you either need 20k in cash (or equivalent currency) or a bank app that shows sufficient funds. Not from personal experience, but apparently this is a significant issue. I am not a Thai lawyer but the agents/lawyers at immigration said they are getting very strict. Obviously, it’s a percentage issue, who they choose to ask maybe arbitrary but many people are getting rejected for entry.

It’s not random- they are just enforcing the rules more severely. You will be fine and no need to worry. Information only, not scaremongering.
