There's injection based that lasts a few months but it's expensive. Most people take the pills. There's two types available in Thailand generic truvada and generic descovy. You'll want to discuss whether to take it and how with your doctor. Also depends on your gender and which type you take. A guy can take generic truvada in a 2-1-1 routine. But usually you have to take it everyday.

I use 2-1-1 as we don't meet outside of our relationship very often and we prefer raw play. So I'll take 2 doses 24 hours before meeting, then 1 dose the day of and 1 dose the day after the last time of play with a third party. (2-1-1)

But I am assuming people only need to take that if they are having unprotected intercourse ? Or is it still required even if there’s no unprotected sex ?

You can still take it to be "safer" with condoms. Depends on how many new partners you have and how often.
